Yesterday, Lesley and I went to the Fox restaurant which we were told was a Jacksonville culinary landmark. The Fox is high on charm and personality, and I can see why it has garnered a following. It was a strange mixture of family diner and hipster spot. The decor and layout were very comforting. The service was quick and efficient if not a little sullen. I don’t really care about niceties, but a “You decided yet?” is not the most comforting introduction. The food was fine. I realize that comment lacks conviction, but I think the charm of the food at The Fox is it’s lack of pretension. Everything was really plain and simple. Lesley’s omelet was good but did not use any exotic or bizarre ingredients. My club was tasty but didn’t attempt any kind of unique preparation or to boast about the quality of it’s meats. Just a nice club sandwich on rye toast. Sometimes for Sunday lunch that is all you really want.
